Officials are investigating a fire on the Northwest Side that
destroyed the Sikh Gurudwara Sahib of Chicago temple, 2341 W. Devon.
More than 500 people worshipped there. The cause of the fire was
unknown. The temple opened in September, 1995, and was the only one
of its kind in the city. There is a Sikh temple in Palatine.
$1 million bond set in kidnapping
A $1 million bond was set for Israel Arthur Salgado, 32, of the 1300
block of North Harding, charged in Monday's kidnapping of Daniel
Ojeda, 42, of Arlington Heights. Ojeda escaped from a North Side
apartment when his kidnappers fell asleep. Two other men were being
