NEW YORK Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's. Or you
can render unto "Caesar's Writers" an hour and a half of your time
tonight.
"That's not Julius Caesar we're talking about," as host Billy
Crystal says in his introduction, "not Augustus Caesar, or any of
those guys who were a laugh riot back then. We're talking about Sid
Caesar."
And we're talking about his stable of writers for "Your Show of
Shows" and "Caesar's Hour" in the 1950s.
Nine of them got together earlier this year for a colloquy at
the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. It was distilled into a
63-minute special that airs (with pledge breaks) from 9:10 to 10:40
tonight on WTTW-Channel 11.
