By locking in the support of key Democrats, Sen. Carol
Moseley-Braun (D-Ill.) has improved her prospects for winning
re-election in 1998.
"I expect to win. All you can do is the best you can do,"
Moseley-Braun, 49, said Monday.
Moseley-Braun listed the support of Mayor Daley, Sen.-elect
Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. Bobby L. Rush (D-Chicago),
deputy chairman of the state Democratic Party.
Polls indicate she faces an uphill fight for re-election,
especially after criticism last summer for making a secret trip to
meet with Nigerian dictator Gen. Sani Abacha. Still, Moseley-Braun
talked with confidence. She has acknowledged mistakes but is asking
to be judged on her full record. ...
