WASHINGTON The Electoral College will cast its ballots for
president and vice president today, finally bringing the presidential
election to an end.
The 538 electors will vote in state capitals around the country.
Vice President Al Gore, as president of the Senate, will announce the
results during a joint session of Congress Jan. 9.
"It's ceremonial and somewhat anticlimactic," said New York
elector Deborah Glick. "The general public believes the president
was already elected."
