Article: VDOT Draws the Line in a 'No Man's Land' on Braddock Road

Dear Dr. Gridlock:
I am at wits' end. At the intersection of Braddock Road and Route
123, as you approach east on Braddock Road, you have two left-turn
lanes, two straight through lanes and one right-turn lane.
Just before the area where the two left-turn lanes start is a wide
area of pavement marked off by a single yellow line. The inference is
that you are not supposed to drive on that pavement, although it is
not clear why.
During morning rush hour, many drivers fly through this "no man's
land" to get into the left-turn lanes to go north on Route 123.
My request is simple. Could VDOT either extend the left-turn lanes
back into this set-aside zone, or paint the paved no man's zone with ...
