An entertaining musical revue honoring one of jazz's incomparable
voices.
The jazz world lost a dynamic songstress when Sarah Vaughan died
in 1990. In a show titled "The Divine One," Black Ensemble Theater
attempts to bring Vaughan's incredible star power to life, if only
for the evening.
Think it would be difficult for one person to re-create the
vocal stylings of a contralto who could scat up one end of the
musical scale and back down the other? Then think bigger. The
show's creators did, and came up with five singers - each taking a
turn as Vaughan. ...
