Honda's popular Accord and Mazda's overlooked Protege are in a holding pattern for 1997 because they get redesigned for 1998.

But the Accord and Protege are solidly engineered, and their producers are seeking to make them attractive to buyers in the 1997 model year by offering restyling of the Protege and small improvements for the Accord - along with a money-saving Accord model.
