Marjorie Williams ["Mean, Mean Moms," op-ed, May 16
] says that
"there are at least six or seven valid, important topics" in a recent
article that I wrote on working mothers in National Review, but she
discounts them because I don't raise them with the requisite
"humility." So, as humbly as possible, allow me to address a few of
her misrepresentations.
Williams complains that I can't decide whether working mothers are
selfish "monsters" or unwitting "victims." Put aside for the moment
the fact that I don't call working moms "monsters," "a universal
menace," "a heartless minority" or even "mean," for that matter.
