William J. O'Brien, 85, a retired federal administrative law judge, died Saturday at his home in Wilmette.

Judge O'Brien, a Chicago native, earned his law degree from DePaul University in 1938 and worked as general solicitor for the Illinois Central Railroad from 1938 until 1974.
