Illinois gamblers have shunned the Big Game multistate lottery,
leaving it the state's least popular game of chance and dashing hopes
that it would revive stagnant lottery sales.
"We haven't seen much impact from the Big Game,"' said Joan
Walters, Gov. Edgar's budget director.
Illinois officials were betting that the Big Game would hype
sales that have been flat since 1989, but Walters said the Big Game
may have caused only a shift in the money wagered rather than an
increase in overall bets.
That may change this week; , said Lori Montana, the state's new
lottery director.
