Most people redecorate when the furniture fades. But a growing
number are redecorating because they want the soft, faded look of old
fabric.
"Vintage decorating is not for the insecure, because there are
no brand names," Lyn Peterson of New Rochelle, N.Y., says. "You mix
what you have with what you find."
Like dented silver and mismatched china, old fabrics have a
special charm. They also are hard to find, expensive and fragile.
Peterson is an interior designer and president of Motif Designs,
