A man charged with holding his former girlfriend hostage at a Skokie shopping center Friday told police he regretted surrendering and should have killed her and himself at the mall.

Lorenzo Davis Jr., 31, told police "next time" he would kill the woman, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Steve Goebel.

Cook County Associate Judge Daniel T. Gillespie denied bond for Davis on Tuesday, saying, "The defendant poses a real and present threat to the physical safety of the complaining witness and to the public at large."
