Article: High court voids order on `Richard'

The Illinois Supreme Court Monday effectively closed off the latest effort to revisit custody issues in the controversial Baby Richard case, overruling a lower court ruling made last week.

The high court said the boy's birth mother could withdraw a petition to restore her parental rights and threw out the lower court order for an investigation of the child's home life.

Without comment the high court also directed Domestic Relations Judge Gay-Lloyd Lott not to hold any hearings on whether the 6-year-old's former adoptive parents and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services could become involved.
