Article: Versace's death creates a demand for his items

Like so many tragedies involving celebrities, the murder of Italian designer Gianni Versace is bringing new interest in his work and shoppers into the stores.

Chicago stores selling Versace fashions and fragrances reported increased sales and heightened interest Thursday.

After being closed Wednesday in memory of the 50-year-old designer, the Versace boutique at 101 E. Oak reopened Thursday to heavier-than-normal foot traffic, manager Joy Sandler said. The shoppers appeared to be a mix of curiosity-seekers, people who had just learned about the designer and "a lot of people who are deeply saddened" by his death, she said. At the Daisy Shop, 67 E.
