Bruce Caruso is part of the cadre of hard-core anglers who fish
for smallmouth bass in the southern end of Lake Michigan.
And he would like to stop taking trips to Lake Superior or Lake
Erie to get to superior trophy smallmouth fishing.
"The majority of the smallmouth are now down in Indiana, but
they are moving up into Illinois," Caruso said.
To reach that trophy-fish status in Lake Michigan, Caruso, a
resident of Munster, Ind., said Illinois and Indiana must enact
regulations to protect the fishery, much the way perch are now being
protected. Neither state has a size limit on smallmouth in Lake
Michigan.
"The smallmouth six-fish limit is barbaric in this day and age,"
Caruso said. ...
