LOS ANGELES Michelle Pfeiffer is in deep.
"It's like this bug that has bitten me," she says of bringing
one of the biggest books - and biggest stories - of 1996 to the big
screen.
In October, Pfeiffer's company, Via Rosa Productions, will start
filming The Deep End of the Ocean. The movie is based on the best
seller by Milwaukee Journal columnist (and Hillside native)
Jacquelyn Mitchard. It was the gut-wrenching novel with which Oprah
Winfrey launched her Book Club.
Pfeiffer plays Beth, a strong, often unsympathetic young mother
whose 3-year-old son is kidnapped in a hotel lobby. The story
follows what happens to the family in the next 10 years during the
boy's captivity.
