Dear Dr. Fox:
My cat is undergoing surgery next week. My veterinarian has given
me a few pre-op instructions, but what about post-op? Is there
anything I can do to make life better for Billie when she comes home?

Glad you asked. You can indeed play a role in helping Billie
recover. It's important that she remain quiet and unstimulated, so
keep children away. Discourage her from active play and from going up
and down stairs. Anticipate her habitual activities. Before she can
jump up on your lap or the sofa, lift and place her there. Carry her
over to her litter box to evacuate.
Feed her a high-quality protein diet, adding some lean meat,
cottage cheese, chicken and ...
