Susan Miller's play "My Left Breast" is considerably less
provocative than its title suggests. In fact, Miller, who early on in
her 70-minute monologue proclaims herself "a one-breasted,
menopausal, Jewish bisexual lesbian mom," gradually over the course
of her evening becomes Everywoman. Her tale, rooted in the
specificity of her experiences, is additionally a universal one. The
issues she mines -- big ones like facing off against death in the
nasty form of breast cancer and the little annoying ones like
listening to the all-knowing vanity of doctors -- are issues we all
must face, sooner or later, one way or another. When Miller hears the
