Article: Michigan State's successful season may bring high expectations in '98-99

EAST LANSING, Mich. Michigan State may have ended the season on a losing note. But the Spartans and coach Tom Izzo likely will be viewed as winners when the 1997-98 results are reviewed.

Picked to finish in the bottom half of the Big Ten going into the season, Michigan State tied for the conference's regular-season championship, advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals and had the Big Ten player and coach of the year.
