Article: Third edition of `Close Encounters' to be special kind for collectors

LOS ANGELES The third kind of "Close Encounters" will come to video in May.

The 1977 "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," which director Steven Spielberg amended, altered and re-released in 1980 as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Special Edition," will now become "Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Collector's Edition."

The latest edition removes the climactic scene in which Richard Dreyfuss' character goes inside the alien mothership. That was the scene that Spielberg reportedly reluctantly agreed to add as a condition of a theatrical re-release of the film just three years after its original premiere.
