I was disappointed to hear criticism of the Washington Humane
Society [Metro, April 18].
In my experience as both a customer and a volunteer, I have been
impressed with the ability of this underfunded organization to
provide efficient and humane animal control services to the city.
I started volunteering after a humane society workerhelped
me capture a stray cat. I was overjoyed when the animal control
officer appeared as concerned about the cat's welfare as I was. He
soothed the distressed animal and gently placed her in a carrier for
