Penny and Bob Gundry bought a house in Glencoe eight years ago on the strength of New Trier High School's academic reputation. They were living in Los Angeles, and when Bob was transferred to Chicago, friends there told them about New Trier.

Now the Gundrys fear their three children, ages 8, 9 and 12, could wind up at New Trier WestHigh School in Northfield instead of the prestigious Winnetka high school they heard so much about.
