Lance Johnson made manager Jim Riggleman flinch. When he hit a
ball hard to right field Wednesday in the 10th inning against the San
Diego Padres, Riggleman felt a moment of elation. CUBS WIN! CUBS .
. . wait.
"I thought for just a second it was a homer," Riggleman said.
Johnson singled and walked as he returned to center field for
the first time since April 6, when a strained hip muscle put him on
the sideline. But Johnson also grounded into two double plays,
including one in the 12th when the Cubs threatened with runners at
first and second.
"He hit both those balls hard, got the barrel of the bat on
them," Riggleman said of the double-play balls.
