It's called the DASH diet, for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension.

Now even the Mayo Clinic is on its bandwagon, saying that it can lower blood pressure and might offer protection against clogged coronary arteries, osteoporosis and some cancers.

In a trial sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the diet lowered blood pressure as much as many blood pressure drugs - enough, the researchers say, to make it possible for doctors to consider the diet as an alternative to drugs for some patients.
