Erstwhile competitors Motorola Inc. and Lucent Technologies
announced Tuesday that they are joining together to design
next-generation digital signal processors used in cell phones, modems
and a host of other products.
Hector Ruiz, president of Schaumburg-based Motorola's
Semiconductor Products Sector in Austin, Texas, said the new alliance
would allow the companies to develop new technologies faster.
"This is a revolutionary announcement in the history of the
semiconductor industry," he said.
Motorola and Lucent, the former Bell Labs research arm of AT&T
based in Murray Hill, N.J., are cross-licensing digital signal
processing technologies and forming a joint design center, known as ...
