Article: Motorola, Lucent chip in on project // Ex-rivals combine on digital signal processors

Erstwhile competitors Motorola Inc. and Lucent Technologies announced Tuesday that they are joining together to design next-generation digital signal processors used in cell phones, modems and a host of other products.

Hector Ruiz, president of Schaumburg-based Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector in Austin, Texas, said the new alliance would allow the companies to develop new technologies faster.
