Article: Web gives spark to NASCAR fantasy leagues

By early afternoon on July 2, the area around Daytona, Fla., was burning. Wildfires were forcing massive evacuations.

That morning a decision had been made to postpone the Pepsi 400 NASCAR race scheduled for July 4 at Daytona International Speedway. In her office near the track, Fay Theos, executive produce of NASCAR Online, the circuit's official web site, was preparing to evacuate when the phone rang.

A man calling from Pennsylvania, told her: "I have a problem with the race being postponed."

Theos, who had plenty of problems of her own at the moment, patiently asked what she could do. The man replied that he was playing the NASCAR fantasy league game called Championship Challenge ...
