In the split seconds before he hurls the Frisbee for his dog,
Frank Buckland runs down a mental checklist: Keep the white plastic
disk straight, so Jimmy doesn't tilt in the air when he catches it.
Don't throw it too high; if the dog lands with too much force, he
could injure a leg. And not too far. Even though the pair, from
Pasadena, won a regional Frisbee competition last year, Buckland's
distance throwing still needs some work. Finally, keep in time with
the music, because if the timing is off, the routine won't work.
Buckland, the 55-year-old owner of a flooring company, flings the
