Article: Get off the bus

Here we are again - hundreds of thousands of us still-faithful CTA riders standing at the corner these sweaty, steamy, wilting, ozone-choked July days with August yet to come - waiting for our bus.

So, what are the odds on our lucking into an air-conditioned ride to work or home or wherever? Just a hardly comfortable shade better than 50-50.

More than 25 years after the CTA bought its first air-conditioned buses, our transit agency owns 943 buses with AC and 939 still without.

Why are we sweltering in this situation lo these many years later? And what is CTA management doing about strengthening the shaky odds we now confront on the CTA's weekday daily average of 880,000 bus rides?
