In a blowup reminiscent of Dan Rather, sports anchor Mike Adamle
stalked off the set of WMAQ-Channel 5 in the middle of a live
sportscast one night last week.
No disciplinary action was taken for the incident, which rocked
the NBC-owned station's 6 p.m. newscast last Friday.
Although viewers probably were unaware, Adamle removed his
microphone, got up and walked back to the sports department after he
was told that a live report by Tom Shaer from Cubs training camp in
Mesa, Ariz., was running long and that Adamle would have to cut the
final story from his sportscast.
Shaer finished his report and switched back to news anchors Mark
Suppelsa and Joan Esposito, who quickly went to a break. ...
