Q. Can too much vitamin E be toxic?
A. The main concern about "too much of a good thing" with vitamin
E supplements is for those who take anticoagulants ("blood thinners")
or have vitamin K deficiencies. For these people, the effects of
vitamin E on blood clotting can be life-threatening.
While studies of vitamin E supplements have shown inconsistent
results, for now it appears that doses of 200 or 400 IU are safe as
long as there are no red flags for blood-clotting risks. Just
remember not to rely only on supplements for this nutrient. When you
get it from nutritional sources such as olive and canola oils, nuts,
seeds, dark green vegetables and whole grains, you get not only
