The last time I saw Joe Montana in person was on Jan. 1, 1979 - an
unseasonably cold day in Dallas - at the infamous Cotton Bowl, where
the University of Notre Dame met the University of Houston on the
gridiron.
Joe, of course, was the popular starting quarterback for Notre
Dame. He led the Irish to a national championship just the year
before.
But after taking a 12-0 lead, the Irish found themselves behind
34-12 with eight minutes left to play.
Joe, sick with the flu, entered the game. In this now historic
performance, Joe turned the game around to win it 35-34.
