HAVEN, Wis. When the 36-hole leader was at 6 under par in the
32nd PGA Club Professionals Championship, Whistling Straits owner
Herb Kohler remarked that a bit of wind would toughen up his
1-year-old links course.
But what happened during the final round Sunday is not what Kohler
had in mind.
A southeast breeze blew in a rolling fog that caused a six-hour
delay at Whistling Straits, which stretches along Lake Michigan north
of Sheboygan. Play was suspended from 11:50 a.m. until 5:45 p.m.
When play is completed today, the club pros' national championship
won't be the only prize at stake. The top 25 finishers in this
tournament will earn invitations to the PGA Championship, which will
be held ...
