Article: Caps Make Trade, Sign Free Agents to Add Depth

The Washington Capitals added more depth yesterday, signing two journeyman free agents, acquiring another in a trade, and agreeing to terms with a pair of restricted free agents.

The club's busiest day of the offseason began with a trade that brought 32-year-old defenseman Bryan Muir (181 NHL games) from Los Angeles to Washington for future considerations.

The Capitals also signed two free agents: left wing Boyd Kane, 27, and defenseman Jamie Heward, 34. Restricted free agents Louis Robitaille, a versatile 23-year-old forward, and Matt Pettinger, a 24- year-old left wing, also were re-signed.
