The name Gallo should be familiar to anyone growing up in America during the last half of the 20th century.

It is unimaginable that anyone in this nation who drinks wine has not put a glass of Gallo to his or her lips. It comes in red and white, it's always available, always good and always a top value.

But if we have relied on Ernest and Julio Gallo for good wine at a cheap price, we have never expected anything more from them. That is changing, however, with Julio's grandchildren, Gina, 31, and Matt, 35. They are collecting an impressive array of medals and awards under their relatively new brand: Gallo of Sonoma.
