Two major ethnic holidays will be celebrated this weekend - Cinco
de Mayo and Polish Constitution Day.
Mexican Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo (May 5) to commemorate
the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 against the
French.
Polish Americans celebrate May 3 as Polish Constitution Day to
remember the signing of the Polish Constitution in 1791.
Mexican Americans celebrate with a Cinco de Mayo Festival running
now through Sunday at Douglas Park, Sacramento and Ogden. Live
music, entertainers, carnival, ethnic foods, exhibits and arts and
crafts are featured. Admission is free. Call (773) 762-6565. At 1
p.m. Sunday, the Cinco de Mayo Parade steps off at Cermak and Damen.
