Article: After shootings, Rogers Park finds hope in community

When the gunshots rang out last weekend, I feared the worst for my neighborhood, Rogers Park.

It wasn't so much the gunman himself that scared me, although initially I did worry he might hit again.

I worried that those bullets could shatter the sense of community. When I moved here 12 years ago, it was to be close to the lake, but it wasn't too long after that Rogers Park captured my heart for other reasons. You'd be hard-pressed to find another corner of the country as diverse as Rogers Park. Just about every race, religion and ethnicity under the sun has a home here. You don't have to hide or worry you'll stand out. You can't be different in Rogers Park because everybody is different.
