Baxter International Inc., a worldwide provider of blood products
and medical supplies, said Tuesday that its chairman, Vernon Loucks
Jr., will retire Dec. 31.
Loucks, 65, is one of the longest-serving senior executives in
Chicago business. He will be replaced by 44-year-old Harry Jansen
Kraemer Jr., who will add to his titles as Baxter's president and
chief executive officer.
Analysts who follow the Deerfield-based company said the move was
expected and that Loucks, who hadn't previously set a retirement
date, has been following a succession plan. Loucks has been chairman
since 1987 and Baxter's CEO since 1980.
