Too often, it's assumed that saxophonists are most strongly
influenced by saxophonists, trumpeters by trumpeters, and so on. Bill
Frisell is here to decline membership in that club. "Though I play
guitar, I never really listened to guitar music," he says. "I was
into Miles and Sonny Rollins and Monk, Charles Ives and orchestral
music. I tried to put all that on a guitar."
