Aurelia Pucinski has sought county and statewide office and talked
about running for mayor of Chicago. She is one of the few local
politicians to be considered a rising star in both parties.
But on Monday, she was just a single mother.
And in the end she said that was the title that mattered. She
cited it as the reason she will not seek a fourth term as circuit
court clerk.
The Republican convert said she needs to find a better-paying job
to put her children through college and pay the mortgage on her
Northwest Side home because of a bitter divorce that left her the
sole breadwinner.
"It changed my life, just being a single parent," Pucinski said
softly.
