Article: Cash registers really care

Many people have an occasional bad day - a day when they're cranky with others and say impolite things.

But computerized cash registers at checkout counters hardly ever have a bad day.

Sure, they physically break down occasionally, just as people do.

But they're almost unfailingly polite. Just look at the receipts you get from these cash registers.

"Thank You. Please come again!"

That's from a post office.

Let's not read too much into that receipt, but you should notice a couple things:

The "You" on the receipt is capitalized, which means the computer thinks you're an important person, which you are.

Another receipt, from a big store, says "Service is Job One."

There's no "Thank you" on that ...
