Anne-Sophie Mutter at Symphony Center Despite outstanding
orchestra and opera, Chicago still exists in something of a backwater
as far as concert managers are concerned. A touring orchestra or
soloist who will play two or three programs in New York will play
only one here.
This treatment is especially galling in the case of the
extraordinary German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, who last month had
a two-week Gotham residency focused on the 20th century, both with
the New York Philharmonic and as a recitalist.
The only complaint that can usually be made of this remarkable
artist is that one can never see or hear her enough. A full and
