Article: South Loop building offers single rooms

At first glance, the latest addition to the trendy South Loop_a land of rising real estate values and relentless condo conversions_might not seem like a perfect fit.

It's a 207-unit single-room-occupancy, or SRO, building for people who were formerly homeless or on the verge of living on the streets.

But the modern, nine-story South Loop Apartments, which includes an employment and job training center on the ground floor, is being welcomed by its neighbors. This acceptance comes at a time when the initials SRO are equivalent to the numbers 666 with some South Loop residents.
