In the first game it was Peter Nowak, in the second Hristo
Stoitchkov and in the third Diego Gutierrez. The Fire has lost a key
player to a red card in each game this season.
"We're trying to get one guy off a week," midfielder Jesse Marsch
quipped.
It's easy to be lighthearted about red cards after victories, and
the Fire is coming off a solid 2-0 triumph over the Columbus Crew.
But the red-card trend is becoming serious. Seven red cards were
handed out in the first 16 games of the Major League Soccer season.
No other team had more than one.
Gutierrez will miss the Fire's game Saturday at defending champion
D.C. United. He was sent off for a tackle from behind on Columbus'
