Article: Double play keys Joliet shutout

WASHINGTON, Ill. Joliet first baseman Carissa Schwartz said it's just the thing she likes to do.

Schwartz threw a perfect strike to third base in the middle of a 1- 3-5 double play in the ninth inning Friday to key the top-rated Steelmen's 1-0 victory over New Trier in the opening round of the Panther Classic.

"I always throw behind the runners," Schwartz said. "They never expect it. With no fence there, I was praying the throw was right to (third baseman Serena Cruz)."

The tournament has a time limit on games, so with a scoreless tie after seven innings, the game went to the international tiebreaker rule, where the batter who made the last out in the previous inning starts at second base.
