4``Red Hot Chicago'' opened with a stream of red Wednesday night at the House of Blues and quickly turned into a flood.

Leather, snakeskin, metal and mesh were in full force on the runway, fashioned into clingy dresses and drapey tops, as were lush tafettas, sexy silks and even a bit of fur.

The event, a joint project of the Apparel Industry Foundation Inc. and the Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust, featured the works of 50 Chicago designers, some already household names and many more of whom are fast on their way to becoming known.
