Sunday night's sold-out concert by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw at
the United Center was similar to the major political parties'
nominating conventions. It was a pompous, predictable and tightly
scripted spectacle, right down to the firing of red and white
confetti.
Like the politicians, this husband-and-wife country act also
incorporated plenty of rock 'n' roll into the festivities in a futile
attempt to show their constituents just how hip they are.
Hill opened the show with a 50-minute set that had all the
subtlety of her outfit-a lime-green halter top and fuchsia pants.
While shouting out hits like "This Kiss" and "Breathe," the stiletto-
heeled vocalist gingerly marched around a circular ...
