Sunday night's sold-out concert by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw at the United Center was similar to the major political parties' nominating conventions. It was a pompous, predictable and tightly scripted spectacle, right down to the firing of red and white confetti.

Like the politicians, this husband-and-wife country act also incorporated plenty of rock 'n' roll into the festivities in a futile attempt to show their constituents just how hip they are.
