Charles James isn't playing by the script. At least he's not
following the lines written for him by Microsoft.
About now, James, who runs the Justice Department antitrust
division, was supposed to have caved. He was supposed to have handed
Microsoft Corp. the "Get Out of Jail Free" card and let the company
romp wildly and rapaciously into the future, bundling anything it
wanted into the monopoly Windows operating system. Yes, by now, James
should be letting Microsoft, as chief executive Steve Ballmer once
said, bundle ham sandwiches into Windows.
After all, didn't George W. Bush win the election and wasn't that
supposed to mean the end of the Microsoft case? Didn't the John
Ashcroft Justice ...
