Film historian Frederick S. Clarke, a master scholar of science
fiction, fantasy and horror movies, published the internationally
known Cinefantastique magazine from a Forest Park office.
Before 1970, science fiction was the stepchild of movie genres.
Aside from amateur "fanzines," an occasional story in American
Cinematographer and photo coverage in Forrest Ackerman's Famous
Monster magazine, there were no respected journals spotlighting the
emerging culture of science fiction, fantasy and horror films and its
army of filmmakers, special-effects pioneers and genre actors.
Mr. Clarke changed all that with Cinemafantastique magazine (also
known as CFQ).
