Oak Brook-based McDonald's plans to replace the Big Xtra burger on
its nationwide menu in January with another quarter-pounder called
the Big N' Tasty that has succeeded regionally. McDonald's Big Xtra,
or MBX, was dubbed the "Whopper stopper" following its launch in
market tests in late 1997 because it appeared to copy archrival
Burger King's Whopper. But Alan Feldman, president of McDonald's USA,
said the less-expensive Big N' Tasty, which has been sold at more
than 2,000 restaurants for the last two years, proved a bigger
