Article: Rogers Park history detailed

Two proud neighborhoods are detailed in a new book, Chicago's Far North Side: An Illustrated History of Rogers Park and West Ridge (Chicago Historical Bookworks, $35). The book has about 230 photos and illustrations.

"We have tried to take people into the bygone days," said Neal Samors, a co-author. Many past and present residents are interviewed.

In 1836, Philip Rogers, the founder of Rogers Park, started buying land from the government for farming at $1.25 per acre.
